Before You Buy:
  • What is their service policy? To be honest, it is absolutely inevitable that some small percentage of jobs will have minor problems as the years go by-the important thing is not so much whether or not there is a problem, but how the company responds to it. At a bare minimum, you want a company that will promptly come out to your home to check it out. Better yet, the company should be prepared to service its installation warranty right away and to help you process the manufacturer's warranty if the problem lies with a product defect. Do not believe a company that claims to never have had any service problems-that is almost certainly untrue (unless the company has only been in business for a few months-and then, that is reason enough for you not to go with them).
  • Do they use subcontractors to install the windows? This is actually quite important: companies that have full-time installers on their payroll, year-in and year-out, are much more likely to be well established and dedicated. Companies that use subcontractors either don't have enough work for full-time employees or they have trouble keeping good workers. Either way, it's no good for the consumer.

  • Do they have third-party certifications or consumer ratings? Designations such as "Diamond Certified"™ and "Bay Areas Best"™ show that a company is well established and reputable. These designations derive from customer surveys and are a good third-party indicator of client satisfaction.
