Before You Buy:
  • Is the company bonded? This is required by law to protect consumers. If a company is not bonded, walk away right now.

  • Does it have a valid, active California contractor's license? Check the California State License Board's website at www.cslb.ca.gov for more information. Bear in mind that the information posted on the CSLB website is sometimes a few months out of date due to CSLB resource limitations, but it is an important place to start.
  • Does the company have workers compensation insurance? Although the law requires such coverage, you would be surprised how many companies think they can get away without meeting their worker protection responsibilities.

  • Do the company have both material and installation warranties? These are often separate warranties: one from the manufacturer (material) and one from the installer (installation).
